When choosing a good knife, the handle matters. So, one of the aspects to take into account is the material, as this is what ensures that the knife is comfortable to use and safe. Here we tell you about the most common materials used in knife handles.

Wood

Wood is one of the most commonly used materials for knife handles. It is a material that is comfortable to the touch and offers a firm grip. It also has an elegant and classic look that suits any style of kitchen. Wood is a resistant material as long as it is properly maintained, as it is porous and can absorb humidity and affect its durability. At 3 Claveles we have several collections of knives with wooden handles: Nørden, Osaka, Sakura and Palosanto.

POM

POM is the acronym for polyoxymethylene, a high-resistance thermoplastic synthetic material. Several 3 Claveles collections have handles made of this material: Forgé, Bavaria, Toledo, Uniblock and Pom. Knives with POM handles are very resistant to wear and tear. They do not lose their shape or crack, even when exposed to high temperatures. POM knives have a soft texture that provides a comfortable and secure grip. They are easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

Polypropylene

At 3 Claveles, the Domvs, Evo and Light collections have handles made of this material. Despite being cheaper, polypropylene is a material that also stands out for its resistance and durability. Another feature of polypropylene handles is their light weight, which makes them easy to handle and control. These benefits make knives with polypropylene handles ideal for everyday use in the kitchen. It should also be noted that they are easy to clean and are dishwasher safe.

Other materials

At 3 Claveles we also have knives with handles made of other materials such as lifoflex (Tokyo collection), proflex (Proflex collection) or micarta (Rioja collection). These synthetic materials offer resistance, durability and a comfortable grip. Lifoflex and proflex are materials that are characterised by a better grip and fit comfortably to the shape of the user's hand, which reduces fatigue during extended use. On the other hand, the charm of micarta handles is that their texture and appearance is very similar to wood. Produced from recycled wood fibres and thermosetting resins.
